Naked Guy in the Garden

Before we came to Germany I already knew about the relaxed dress standards, as we pass the park or lake and there are people undressing down to their undies. I've seen it before, even in the burg, (We all know those tan lines don't even out themselves) But here, is a whole new level of nudiTAY.

Did anyone else notice that before Eve entered the garden scene being naked was totally fine? It was only after she came, and a few more events, that it became an issue. Well that issue is dissipating here in Berlin, has been for a while actually. Yes, in the country where complete order and complete obedience is the way of life. Some Germans have a not-so-secret secret, they want to to be naked when and where ere they can.

It was only last month that we were strolling through Tiergarten (the biggest park in Berlin) only to have a lady start disrobing in front of us in middle of a cool rain storm. As we sped past her she started painting herself pink and was getting ready go for a swim. Lucky for us we were gone before she took too much off...

Germans know how to do parks and gardens right

The right to be nude at the beach and park, although frowned upon during the 1940's, was still allowed and really it was the only piece of freedom the East Germans could enjoy while the wall was up.

There's actually a lot to be said about this. There could be an argument that this is an example of moral decay. Another might argue that because of the nudest culture (actually they are called naturists) bodies are seen as bodies and not just sex objects. I have to say people out here do seem comfortable with their bodies and there isn't really a sense of trying to impress people the same way that there is in the States. You are ultimately just who you are.

Juan and Jack in the Gardens
All that said, I am still surprised when I walk by a garden and catch a glimpse of our neighbor watering the garden as bare as a Jay bird. Many times I have to quickly avert my eyes when I notice even the slightest hint of people laying out in near perfectly manicured gardens. It's just a different mindset and culture.

I did come across this interesting quote - "we're all equal in the nude...When people are naked you can't tell the difference between the man with the doctorate and the man who collects trash."

Think of the time we would all save on laundry! Or the money we would save if didn't have to worry about clothes all together! On the other hand, there are always ticks. And, although I have a deep appreciation of naked time, I can't help feeling that some parts of our bodies require special respect. Although the movement to be more open isn't directed at being sensual, I feel like it trivializes the parts of us that are most private. It downplays the importance and sacredness of procreation and the parts that each of us were given to participate in it.
This happened

At any rate, Jack and I have mapped out certain No-Stroll-Zones so far, but you never know when the man in the bushes will pop out to give ya a fine "howduyadoo!" in the evening ;)
