I am Lot's Wife
We had a really nice apartment in Sodom, it was perfect for our little family. We were around family, had good friends, good jobs and really everything we could ask for. Then within a day that all changed, we were to move to the middle of who-knows-where and we were lucky enough to take our couches... along with our dogs, clothes and bikes! As I left I couldn't help but look back. And to be honest I looked back often.
OK OK so I didn't turn into salt. But surprise, I'm not really Lot's wife. And we didn't live in Sodom. However, we needed to move. Juan and I both knew it and like Lot and his wife we were taken by the hand and led in the direction we needed to go. It isn't that Provo was going to be destroyed, or that it is even a bad place, it was simply not the place we should be in any more and it was time to leave. It became the wrong place.
I wish I could tell you my face shone with confidence and secretly I have always wanted to live in Texas. But truthfully I've longed to return to Provo, to our old life and friends many many times.

Until, recently. I was on a walk with Jack and it hit me, I was being like Lot's wife! I don't know if you remember Jeffery R. Holland's talk "Remember Lot's Wife". He said "it isn’t just that she looked back; she looked back longingly. In short, her attachment to the past outweighed her confidence in the future."Totally woke me up. I don't know if you ever have those moments, but I do! That said I have seen first hand how the future holds better options, accomplishment of dreams and overall a far richer and fulfilling life if we have the confidence to move forward. Hollad also noted, "Faith is for the future. Faith builds on the past but never longs to stay there."
Since being in College Station I can say we have never lived in a better place with better people. Not only do they willingly, and voluntarily share their valuables, food, time, toys and kind words. But they are quick to do it and do so without boasting or seeking praise. Often times sharing and loving when their own families are struggling themselves. Since moving here I've learned about giving even when I know tomorrow we will be in need and trusting the Lord that everything will be ok.
Not saying I couldn't learn this in Provo, but perhaps for me, I am learning it better here. Thank goodness for our move.
Here is to moving and looking forward. I've become a Texan, changed the license, the plates, address and wave to people on the street (if they don't look too creepy, gotta have some safety control).
