Natural Curl

"When I was a born, God walked through the halls the nursery and kissed each of us on the forehead. I was so delighted my hair curled right then and there."

My grandparents way of dealing with curly hair - keeping it short

Blessing, curse, or just an excuse to hate the rain, curls add a whole new way of life. It has taken a good 20 years to tame the mane  Curly hair, if understood, can bless you with never needing a brush, looking great 5 minutes after you wake up or curse you by going Medusa in the humidity; snatching up seeds, insects and even small rodents at times.

The grandparent's fought the wild curls that climbed out of my gourd by cutting them back. By time my mom got hold of my curls, they had doubled in size and were ripe and ready for the stylin 80's look (too bad I was sporting that fluffy-sassy-techno style ten years too late)  I was a fancied up poodle for the majority of my adolescence.

The poodle-do
College was a period of enlightenment where I realized we weren't living in the eighties anymore. David Bowie gave way to Mika, the Berlin Wall had been taken down for years (I don't know how I missed the memo). Even bigger than that, boys were becoming interesting, almost as interesting as medicine and science! But I soon realized that my routine of showering and running to class with wet hair only to look like Mufasa, was wild, scary, and downright intimidating to boys.

Paramedics class saved the future of my curls and dating life as I became blood buddies with Rach. We would practice giving each other IVs. Rach could tell that, while we were training to save lives, my hair was what really needed saving at that moment. She decided to have a styling intervention and took me to her place and straightened my hair. It was a new ME. The style stuck and I started straightening those curls for 2 years. Honestly, that's the time I started to care about that fuzzy stuff coming out of my dome.

College-do
It all came to an abrupt end when my blow dyer died in the middle of the winter. Rexburg can be downright frigid enough to freeze your hair and snap it off "sanka-style". Desperate, I sat in front of our heater like a wet puppy and waited for my hair to dry. I booked it to class and thought nothing about it until I got home. Lo and behold, perfect Sherlie Temple ringlets, and for the first time in my life, no frizz. It was the begging of a new era for my curls!

I still have bad hair days from time to time, we are talking National Geographic's wild mane photo gallerey worthy. My husband knew what he was in for before he married me and has learned that even the tinniest bit of stubble can act as velcro to my grab happy curls. Baby Jack enjoys getting a good hold of it every now and then...it gives him comfort. It also reminds me that there is always a new hair do that might randomly pop up and keep my life in order.

Woke up Late for Wedding - 5 minute do--Thank YOU!
